From 2:25 to 1:15 — boosting efficiency with low-profile clamps
Ignetas UAB cut its per-part production time nearly in half – from 2 minutes 25 seconds to just 1 minute 15 seconds – by clamping 6 parts at once on a dedicated pallet with OK-VISE low-profile clamps.
Ignetas UAB is a mid-size subcontracting company offering services such as robot welding, over-moulding, semi-automatic and manual riveting, and complex assembly. The company also operates several CNC milling machines.
They had the task of reducing production time for one specific part, machined from an aluminum profile. The part is produced on a small 3-axis vertical machine (table size 300x250mm). It’s a small part requiring both milling and drilling operations, with 3 setups needed. The very short cycle time left no room for the operator to do any additional work between the start and end of a cycle.
Using traditional machine vises, total production time per part, including all setups, was 2 minutes 25 seconds. We recommended they switch to low-profile clamps and build a dedicated pallet where all setups are clamped at the same time – 6 parts total on one pallet. This reduced production time to 1 minute 15 seconds per part. The cycle time for one setup was 2.5 minutes, giving the machine operator more time between cycles.
