OK-VISE in 5-axis machining

Lifting small parts for full 5-side accessibility

Our first case from Lithuania is a company using vertical 5-axis CNC machines, with a machine table size of Ø630x500mm. In most cases, customers use standard or dedicated 5-axis machine vises for 5-side machining. When the part is large enough, there is no problem reaching it from all 5 sides with the spindle and tools.

But what should you do if the task is to machine a complex part as small as 25x25x25mm, using your existing machine and table? In this situation, a specific vise is needed to lift the part off the table base, making it possible to reach it from all sides with the spindle and tools.

The solution

The customer started using a low-profile clamp. As the photos show, the solution is simple: the customer uses a standard machine vise to clamp a block of aluminum, which we call a riser. On top of the riser, one low-profile clamp is used to fix the blank material for 5-side machining. The solution is simple and doesn’t require a large investment in specific clamping equipment.

Aluminum riser and OK-VISE low-profile clamp combined for better accessibility on a 5-axis table.
