List of frequently asked questions
Based on our experience, we have collected some questions that our customers from time to time have inquired from us. Should you have additional questions that are not included in these pages, we welcome you to contact us and our team will answer to your specific questions to the best of our experience and ability.
These answers are provided to help you to start using our clamps. We want to stress that every case and question should be treated individually and the answers provided are not universal. One should always carefully select the right type and the right size of a clamp for an each individual and specific fixture. You can always turn to us and our distributors for additional information.
Is it possible to machine workpieces in my tombstone with no side stoppers?
Normally, the side stoppers are not required. In heavier machining, it is possible to gain extra friction by adding small spikes between the workpiece and a stopper and between the clamp jaw and the workpiece
Do you also provide fixed stops or custom made clamps based on drawings or requests?
We have a range of fixed stoppers to offer which are designed to be used in our Rotary pallet system
and we can do certain tailoring tasks for our low-profile clamps on request. Each case have to be
viewed individually. Feel free to ask what help we can offer.
Can the other end of the clamp be located against the fixed stop while other end is performing the clamping action towards the workpiece?
If the other jaw of a clamp lies against the fixed stop, check that the bolt is located in the middle of the wedge hole so the wedge has enough space to move down when tightened, allowing the free clamping action.
Can you use these clamps hydraulically or pneumatically?
Yes, you can. Many of our customers do so. You just have to make sure that the cylinder creates enough, but
at the same time not too much power to get the required and suitable clamping force.
Do these clamps need any lubrication?
Regular cutting emulsion used in the machines is normally sufficient enough for lubrication.
Are machinable jaws available in double wedge models?
Machinable jaws come only with the single wedge models providing solely a horizontal movement of jaws. Double wedge models can not be machined.
If I need a clamping power of xxx ( kN), how many ( kpm) I need in order to achieve the clamping power required?
-We have prepared a moment table indicating right measures and are happy to provide this table to our customers on request.
I come from Netherlands. Do you have your brochure in Flemish language?
-Yes, we do. Our brochures are currently available in following languages:
-English -Finnish -German -Japanese -France -Flemish -Russian -Chinese -Italian -Swedish
The latest brochure of ours is now available in English, Swedish and in Finnish. You can also always ask
available literature and assistance from our local distributors. Many of them have translated our product
information in their own languages.
Do you have your low-profile clamps in stock?
It is our policy to maintain a relatively large a stock in order to be able to serve our customers better. Orders less than 100 pieces will normally leave during the same day we will recieve an order.
Is it possible to use the half inch bolt in your DK2-VT and DK2-WT models?
For our clients using inch scale bolts, we have designed wedges that can fit the half inch bolt. Clamps with wedges designed for these bolts are known as DK2-VTI and DK2-WTI. Otherwise, they are similar to our standard models, only the hole size in the middle of the wedge is slightly bigger to fit the half inch bolt perfectly.
What are the equivalent sizes of your metric bolts in inch scale?
Following inch scale bolts can be used with OK-VISE low-profile clamps:
| Series |
Metric bolt |
Inch bolt |
| O-series clamps |
M5 |
3/16 - 24 UNC |
| B-series clamps |
M8 |
5/16 - 18 UNC |
| D-series clamps |
M12 |
1/2 - 13 UNC |
| F-series clamps |
M16 |
5/8 - 11 UNC |
OK-VISE low-profile clamps are very powerfull. How do I control the power when our workpieces are of soft material or thin wall?
Using manually a torque wrench or alternatively using pneumatic tools with a precisely selected torque in order to be able to fully control clamping force.
Should we use soft or rough end of jaws, if the material machined is soft?
OK-VISE clamps come with both smooth end of jaws and with a rough end of jaws (serrated).
In case of soft material such as plastic, brass or aluminium, we recommend the use of clamps with smooth end of jaws.
Isnīt the workpiece going to move upwards, downwards or sideways when tightening the clamp?
Our single-wedge clamps are designed to keep the workpiece steadily in place allowing no upward, downward or sideway movement. Due to a clamps cross-wedge construction in both the horizontal and the vertical plane, the clamp is locked firmly in every direction as it is tightened down.
With heavier and higher workpieces we recommend the use of our double-wedge clamps with a pull-down action to ensure that there is no upward movement.
What material is used for clamps and how hard are they?
Clamps are made out of high quality tool steel and they are through hardened to the hardness of 48 to 52 HRC. Wedges will always come with hardness of 48 to 52 HRC.
We have also softer long jaws, designed to be machined according to a shape of the workpiece. These jaws come on the hardness of 30 to 34 HRC and can therefore be machined.
You claim that the jaws can be machined to suit the geometry of the workpiece. How deep can this machinable jaw be machined in order not to weaken the structure of the jaw itself?
-BK2-VT+3 - can be machined up to 3 mm from the end of the jaw.
-DK2-VT+5 - can be machined up to 5 mm from the end of the jaw.
-FK2-VT+5 - can be machined up to 5 mm from the end of the jaw.
